How to play Word Bakery
Word Bakery is a free word puzzle where you swipe letters on a tray to spell words and fill a board of blank cookie tiles. 200 levels across twenty packs, with an extra-word jar that turns your near-misses into free hints.
How to play
Swipe the letters
Press a letter on the tray and drag through others to spell a word, then release. You can also tap letters one at a time, or just type them on a keyboard.
Fill the board
Every level has a set of words hidden in the blank tiles. Spell one and its letters flip over. Words sit in their own rows and never cross, so each one is a separate find.
Bank your extra words
Spell a real word that is not on the board and it drops into the jar instead of being rejected. Five different extra words fill the jar and earn a free hint.
Shuffle when you stall
The shuffle button rearranges the tray. It is always free, and moving the letters is often enough to make a word jump out.
Collect the gift every ten levels
Finishing a pack of ten levels earns a gift of stars, growing from 5 stars in the first packs to 30 by the end of season two. Collect it from the menu.
Tips
- Find the longest word first. It uses the whole tray and often shows you the shorter words hiding inside it.
- Wrong guesses are not wasted: a real word that is not on the board goes in the jar and counts toward a free hint.
- Look for anagrams. Many boards pair words built from the same letters, like HEAT and HATE, or SHOOTING and SOOTHING.
- Typing is faster than swiping on a laptop. Letter keys build the word, Enter submits, Backspace undoes.
- Save your three free hints. The jar refills, but those three never come back.
About Word Bakery
Word Bakery is a word puzzle built around a letter tray and a board of blank tiles. Each level gives you a handful of letters cut from one base word, and a board of words you can spell from them. Swipe, tap or type to spell a word, and if it belongs on the board its cookie tiles flip over one by one. Clear every word to finish the level.
Unlike a crossword, Word Bakery's words never intersect. Each answer sits in its own row with clear space around it, so you are always solving separate words rather than untangling a grid. That makes the game readable on a phone and quick to pick up, while the later levels still stack twelve words on a single board.
The 200 levels run across two seasons of ten themed packs. Season one starts with a three-letter tray and two words, and builds to seven letters and twelve words by the end of the Saffron pack. Season two is made for players who finished the first hundred: eight-letter trays, longer answers and rarer vocabulary, roughly double the letters to find on every board.
Words that are real but not on the board are not punished. They go into the extra-word jar, and five distinct ones earn a free hint, so exploring the tray pays off even when you guess wrong. On top of that you start with three free hints for life, and a gift of stars arrives every ten levels.
Word Bakery is free to play in your browser on desktop and mobile, with no download. Progress saves on your device and syncs to your account when you sign in, so you can start a pack on a laptop and finish it on a phone.
Frequently asked questions

Yes. Word Bakery is completely free in your browser, with no download. An optional Plus membership removes ads across all 100 Daily Games titles.
How many levels does Word Bakery have?
200 levels, split into two seasons of ten packs. Season one covers levels 1 to 100 and teaches the game. Season two, levels 101 to 200, is built for players who have finished the first hundred, with eight-letter trays and about twice as many letters to find per board.
What happens when I spell a word that is not on the board?
It goes into the extra-word jar rather than being rejected. Five different extra words fill the jar and earn a free hint, so guessing real words is always worth doing.
How do hints work?
A hint reveals one hidden letter. You start with three free hints that last for the life of your save, then hints come from the jar you fill with extra words, or cost 20 stars each.

Finish levels. Every ten completed levels earns a gift you collect from the menu, worth 5 stars early on and up to 30 stars in the final packs of season two.
Do I need to drag to play?
No. You can drag across the letters, tap them one at a time and tap the last letter again to submit, or type the word on a keyboard and press Enter.
Does my progress save?
Yes. Progress saves on your device automatically, and syncs to your account when you sign in so it follows you between phone and desktop.
